1. A group of people forming a distinct unit within a larger group by virtue of certain refinements or distinctions of belief or practice.
2. A religious body, especially one that has separated from a larger denomination.
3. A faction united by common interests or beliefs.

It is important to note that the Religious groups mentioned on this page are not considered Denominations, neither by Mainstream Christianity, nor by themselves. Each of these groups consider themselves to be religious movements entirely independent of Mainstream Christianity. They are included here under the definition above of what a sect is. For the purposes of this page, they are considered to be sectarian divisions with a basis revolving loosely around major components of Mainstream Christianity, which inherently include a general belief that Jesus of Nazareth, who become Jesus Christ, is Divine. |
| An Introduction to Christian Science
| | Christian Science was founded by Mary Baker Eddy (1821-1910) and is based on a book she wrote called Science and Health. Christian Science rejects the notion of the Holy Trinity altogether, and it rejects Eastern religion, even though a lot of their ideas are very Eastern in essence. |

Their theology appreciates Jesus as a God separate from God the Father, and they reject the notion of the Holy Trinity. |
| Mormonism - LDS

This site contains basic Mormon beliefs, which include considering the Holy Bible to be incomplete and inaccurately translated. They base their faith instead on the Book of Mormon, which their founder Joseph Smith (1805-1844) claimed to have unearthed and translated into Middle English. Their theology retains the Christian Trinity, but they believe that the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are three different beings, rather than the mainstream Christian belief that the Trinity are three Divine Persons in one Supreme Being. |
